Infomed Ltd is delighted to announce that Medizine – our magazine for keeping nurses updated is going digital for a new series on therapeutics.

The series is based on the acclaimed book "Medicines: A guide for Everybody" (originally published by Penguin, London) which has been updated by a team of clinical pharmacists under the supervision of Prof. Peter Weedle, Clinical Pharmacy Practice, University College Cork, Ireland. The authors are specified in each App.

Medizine – "Medicines: a guide for everybody" is available for Apple Computers iPhone and iPad.

The first Medizines in the new series are:

  1. Sleeping drugs
  2. Antidepressant drugs
  3. Drugs affecting blood fats and cholesterol
  4. Anxiolytic drugs
  5. Antihypertension drugs
  6. Antipsychotic drugs
  7. Drugs for heart failure
  8. Drugs for treating Dementia.

How does this work? Medizine: "Medicines: a guide for everybody" will be a complete series of approximately 50 modules which covers the whole range of therapeutics: a complete A to Z of medicines.

Each topic will have a comprehensive overview followed by ten multiple choice questions to confirm your learning.

At the end of each module you insert your name and e-mail address and a certificate of completion of the module will be issued directly to you by e-mail. (Please make sure to insert your name as you wish it to appear on the certificate)

This sounds like it is a lot of work? Collectively it is, however, in just covering one module a month, the series will build up over a period of years. Think of it like the magazines that used to be produced on gardening, model railways, knitting etc, where you bought the first magazine and got a free folder and then each week you got a new magazine until you had a complete collection. This is the format we are using for Medizine.

Do I have to do the whole course? No, you can just do the topics that are of interest to you. You can always go back and cover the missing modules at a later date if you wish to.

I have an iPhone how can I get the modules? The modules will be available as a download from iTunes. Once you complete the module you can fill in the contact form at the end of the module and a certificate will be e-mailed back to you.

I don’t have an iPhone how can I get the modules? The modules will also be loaded on an iPad and the iPad will be delivered to the home/hospital for circulation to each nurse. Once you complete the module you can fill in the contact form at the end of the module and a certificate will be e-mailed back to you.

What is the cost? The iPhone apps cost 149c (on Apple’s iTunes). There is no charge for the use of the iPad on loan to nurses who are working in nursing homes where we provide pharmaceutical care.

I have no idea what you are talking about! Don’t worry, using an iPad is simple, and full training will be given on how to access the various modules.
